The Boston Red Sox win again on Wednesday night, run current winning streak to seven games

The Boston Red Sox continued their winning ways Wednesday night, defeating the Chicago White Sox 4-0 to extend their winning streak to seven games.

Boston has been one of the hottest teams in Major League Baseball over the past two months, and Wednesday's victory was another dominant win over a fellow playoff hopeful.

Veteran right-hander Sonny Gray turned in another solid outing. Gray has been remarkable for the Sox this season, and Wednesday was no different. Gray scattered just three hits across six scoreless innings while striking out eight. After a couple of suboptimal outings, the veteran looked every bit like the frontline starter Boston has been getting all season.

At the plate, Wilyer Abreu continued to swing a hot bat.

Abreu scored three of Boston's four runs. Willson Contreras singled in the first inning, driving Abreu in to open the scoring. Wilyer Abreu didn't need anyone to drive him home in the third inning, taking matters into his own hands and mashing a solo home run in the third inning that extended the Red Sox lead to two.

The Sox would go on to score again in the seventh when Andruw Monasterio hit a sacrifice fly to left field that drove in Jarren Duran.

Wilyer Abreu would score the fourth and final run of the evening in the eighth inning on a single off the bat of Caleb Durbin.

The White Sox were held scoreless, compiling only four hits while being completely overmatched by the Red Sox pitching.

The Boston bullpen proved strong again following Gray's masterpiece, allowing only one hit over the final three innings. The trio of Guerrero, Whitlock, and Moran added six more strikeouts for a team total of fourteen.

The Red Sox have found their identity over the past two months. Strong starting pitching, a lockdown bullpen, and an offense that continues to produce up and down the lineup have transformed Boston into one of the American League's toughest teams.

The victory also secured Boston's ninth consecutive series win, as the club continues to gain ground in the American League playoff race.

With seven straight wins and confidence continuing to build, the Red Sox will look to complete the sweep of the White Sox on Thursday before turning their attention to the Athletics for a three-game set in Boston.
