Terry Rozier co-defendant accused of threatening witnesses amid NBA gambling scandal

A codefendant of former NBA player Terry Rozier has been accused of threatening a witness in court case centered around illegal gambling scandal

Federal prosecutors are seeking to revoke the bond of Terry Rozier's co-defendant, Deniro Laster, after accusing him of attempting to intimidate witnesses in a court case associated with a sports gambling case involving Rozier.

According to court filings, prosecutors allege Laster used social media posts, third parties, and other methods to intimidate potential witnesses from cooperating with investigators. The prosecution claims those actions are enough to rise to the level witness tampering and argue Laster should no longer remain free on bond.

Rozier, who has pleaded not guilty to federal gambling-related charges, is accused of accepting money to intentionally alter his performance during a March 2023 game while playing with the Charlotte Hornets. His legal team continues to maintain his innocence, recently pointing to text messages they claim prove Rozier was unaware of the alleged betting scheme. Prosecutors dispute that interpretation and maintain that the messages are unrelated to the alleged sports gambling conspiracy.

The latest developments add another layer to a case that remains one of the NBA's most recent gambling scandals. Rozier is currently scheduled to stand trial in February 2027.
